Assistant Coach Neal Sammons
Coach Sammons has been with the Blue Devil Baseball Program since the 2015 season. Coach Sammons is a native of Covington, GA and a 2002 graduate of Eastside High School. While in high school, Coach Sammons played in the baseball program for 5 years where he was a catcher, pitcher and third baseman and was a part of the 2000 GHSA AAA State Baseball Runner-Up team. After graduation he attended Georgia Southern University for one year before transferring to Georgia College and State University, where he received a degree in Health and Physical Education in 2006. He began his teaching career at Veterans Memorial Middle School in 2006-2007, and remained there until 2014. Being a Christian, he got his Master’s Degree in Christian Leadership from Liberty University and served as the youth pastor at a local church for 2 years, during this time he became an ordained minister. It was during this time as pastor that Coach Sammons realized his ministry was coaching. Throughout his life Coach Sammons has been to numerous church camps, youth conferences and several mission trips to foreign countries like Mexico, Venezuela and Honduras. Coach Sammons meet his wife, Tara, while they were both counselors at a camp in the summer of 2007. They were married in July of 2008 and have 3 children; Colson, Chandler June, and Colbie.
Coach Sammons is entering his 11th year as a baseball coach and has coached baseball in a variety of ways. He has been either an assistant or a head coach at each level of baseball from middle school through varsity. He has also served as a pitching coach and first base coach as well as assisting in summer camps and clinics. In addition to coaching baseball, Coach Sammons is the Head Coach for the Lady Blue Devils fast pitch softball team.
