Varsity Infield Coach Gil. Navarro hails from New Jersey where his family lived in exile from Cuba. Coach Navarro’s heritage was surrounded by baseball where his  grandfather Luis was a trainer for the Cuban National baseball team and was inducted into the Cuban Baseball Players Hall-of-Fame. Many of Coach Navarro’s childhood memories included hanging around Cuban ball players playing in the Major Leagues. It was here where he found his love and passion for the game.

After his successful youth and high school baseball career, he played for the Bronx Community College Broncos, and later attended New York University where he studied Computer Science. Today, he aide’s small businesses reach their technological goals, developing custom business software applications, while coaching in his off time.

Throughout his high school coaching career Coach Navarro has Won 2 State Championships, 4 Region Championships and attained 7 playoff appearances. Coach Navarro has aided over 100 high school student-athletes go on to experience success in athletics at the college level. These players have been placed in Division I, II, III, NAIA and Junior College Levels while having several scouted professionally. Coach Navarro has been instrumental in preparing his athletes to become marketable and eligible to play at the next level. Coach Navarro has also been producing nationally top ranked summer travel teams since 2000. He holds numerous sanctioned State, National, and World Championship titles.

Coach Navarro married his wife Rosina in August of 1987. They are raising 3 boys (Gilberto, Luis, Daniel) where they currently reside in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Varsity Pitching Coach Romas Hicks

Coach Hicks pitched professionally in the Kansas City Royals organization.  Romas played his college baseball at the Division I level for Georgia State University.  After retiring from professional baseball he has done full time instruction for pitchers through camps, clinics, and competitive travel teams through TEAM ELITE baseball.  Romas Hicks joined the Blue Devil coaching staff in August of 2011. 

Jr. Varsity Head Coach Phillip Rogers is a newcomer to the Blue Devil Baseball coaching staff. He is a native of Loganville, Georgia where he was a standout baseball and football player for Loganville High School. Playing both Catcher and Outfield in high school, Coach Rogers was named team captain during both his junior and senior years. Following high school, Coach Rogers attended Georgia College and State University where he played baseball for two years until a shoulder injury cut his career short. After this injury, he transferred to the University of Georgia where he walked on to the football team as a punter and graduated with a History degree in May of 2007. After completing his undergraduate degree at UGA, Coach Rogers returned to Loganville High School where he coached baseball for three years. During those three years, LHS won the 2008 AAAA Baseball State Championship, went to the 2009 Final Four, and then the 2010 Sweet Sixteen. In May of 2010, Coach Rogers completed his Masters of the Art in Teaching from Georgia College and State University while coaching and student teaching at LHS. Coach Rogers also serves as a football coach for the Blue Devils and teaches in the Social Studies department here at MHS. He is proud to be a part of the Blue Baseball program and is excited to see where the program is headed. Coach Rogers will be the JV head coach and working with the outfielders. 

Jr. Varsity Assiatant Coach Mike Marchese attended high school in Troy, NY.  Upon graduation he served two active duty years in the U.S. Navy.  After completing his service he enrolled in college and earned an Associate’s Degree in Education from Hudson Valley Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland.  Also, Coach Marchese holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Walden University.
Coach Marchese moved to the Atlanta area in 2000 and has been teaching Physcial Education and Health for 11 years in the Atlanta area.  Sports coached during that time include baseball, basketball and football.  Schools taught at include Meadowcreek HS, Campbell HS, Osborne HS and currently Marietta HS.  Before coming to Marietta Coach Marchese was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Osborne HS.
Currently, Coach Marchese teaches Team Sports, Personal Fitness and Health at the high school and coaches basketball and baseball.

JR Blue Devils 6th-8th grade Head Coach: Joe Fitts Coach Fitts has been a Varsity  Baseball Assistant and a JV Head Coach at Aquinas High School in Augusta, GA,  prior to coming to teach in the Marietta School System in 2011.  While in Augusta, Coach Fitts, as an assistant coach, helped Aquinas High School advance to the single “A” State Championship in baseball in 2010.  In addition to the 2010 state championship appearance, Coach Fitts was apart of back to back region championships (2010, 2011) at Aquinas and as a Junior Varsity head coach in 2011, the Junior  Aquinas Irish posted a 9-4 record.  Coach Fitts will serve as head coach the 6-8th grade team and will serve as the coordinator for all middle school programs.

JR Blue Devils 6th – 8th grade assistant coach: Bryan Higginbotham:  Coach Higginbotham is a former Varsity Blue Devil baseball and football player.  After highschool Bryan continued his education and baseball career at Birmingham Southern University.  After graduating and completing his collegiate playing career he returned home to Marietta to work and coach for his alma mater.  Coach Higginbotham will primarily work with pitchers and catchers for the Junior Blue Devils.
